Here they are:
- The Lord is faithful, even when you are not.
- If you want to do some self improvement, start with one thing at a time.
- The Lord wants you to be happy, trust in his plan and he will make you paths straight.
I am not "old and wise" but I have always been a deep thinker. In these past couple of transition years in my life (graduating high school and moving out of state for college) I have been learning how to love myself, love others and mostly love The Lord. The former two come much easier after you've learned what The Lords love will do for you. I have found that in loving the creator of the universe you can be put at peace for what the future holds. I have learned the true meaning behind loving others and myself because I have a perfect example of love to follow.
Back to my main points... The Lord is faithful. Always. In the Bible there are countless stories about people who have been called to do things for God. These things are usually not easy tasks and require full abandonment of everything they know of in their world. They require people to leave their families, to sacrifice their children, to abandon the towns they grew up in. All of these things, just to travel into an unknown world. Now don't get me wrong, these people portray examples of great bravery and devotion to our Lord, however, sometimes they don't follow through. Abraham was called to leave without his family and to go where the Lord told him to go. Abraham did leave and followed the Lord, however he took his family with him. His trip did not go exactly as planned because he brought his family and his belongings with him but The Lord was near and made his paths straight regardless. There are countless examples of this story in the Bible solely for the reason to show us God's great love for us. The Lord is SO faithful, and will make our paths straight even though we are not always purely faithful to him.
Number Two: Self Improvement is something that is highly encouraged in the society we live in. It's important to be "thin, beautiful, tolerant and talented" because we see so many people who fit these standards...yeah right. There is nothing wrong with self improvement, however there is something wrong with a negative self image, the image you create of yourself after you've given up on these goals time after time. The fact of the matter is that you, yes, YOU have been created perfectly by the same person who created this great universe out of NOTHING. You are strong enough to create, improve, encourage and accomplish anything. This only goes awry when you tell yourself that you will do things and accomplish things and then you don't. The way New Years Resolutions have a face of "I'm going to say that I will do/ stop doing this or that and if I don't maintain it, then that's fine because nobody else is succeeding at theirs either" New Years Resolutions come at a very cheap price... making failure okay. Ya'll want to know what I say? Stop. You are a fabulous human being and you have all of the skills necessary to be successful. So don't settle for anything less. There is nothing more satisfying than telling someone in DECEMBER that you are not going to drink that Coke because you gave them up for New Years so just do it. Whatever it is, whether you want to quit your crazy Coke addiction or do ten pushups every day just do it. No excuses. Keeping a promise to yourself is definitely not an easy task which is why it is important to set goals ONE at a time, so that you can be successful one day at a time. If you want to lose 50 pounds, make your goal a day by day goal. "today I am going to eat healthy and tomorrow I will be healthier than today" and so on and so on.
*to summarize-- There is power in Positive Self Talks. Find the value you have. You are worth being successful.
Number Three and probably the hardest lesson to learn. The Lord WANTS you to be happy and successful. I know that right now you may be living in a place in your life where you are single, lonely, feeling ugly, feeling worthless or whatever it is. We all have those things that we think, but the truth is and always has been that The Lord loves you and has plans for your life. In our society it has become a popular thing to think of yourself as "forever alone" "fat" and "ugly" however the truth is that you are none of those things. It is impossible to be defined by one word or even three words. The trick is to look at yourself through the same eyes that The Lord sees you through and to realize that the things you are labeled as are lies from Satan. I have been single for years now and I have never felt more alive. I have eaten a few too many cookies this holiday season, but I am full of grace and love. I am a couple days past when I should have showered and I'm out of makeup completely but I am a daughter of the highest King. Being single has given me the freedom to build my life with only myself and The Lord. Being a few pounds overweight has given me the power to express myself control and to see the results of it and having days that I feel like a gremlin has given me the eyes to see that I have a beautiful soul and to discover the things that make people truly beautiful. I know that eventually, when in his will it is perfect, I will find a man who treats me exactly how my Lord does. Being single does not mean in any way that you are alone. It means that you are being sculpted into an independent human being who has so much value and worth that you are able to stand on your own two feet. The Lord is constantly present looking over your life and making improvements in you daily.
Faithfulness to our God will be undoubtedly the best thing you do this year and will be the fast track to an awesome life. God loves answering your prayers and does it all the time. Ask him today for things like, a change of heart about yourself. To see the good in yourself and to show his love to others through your own love of others. My 2014 New Years Resolution? Put my year in the faith of my Lord. Also, to stop eating so much fried chicken...
